The Los Angeles Rams have released veteran kicker Brett Maher after he missed a pair of field goals and an extra point during Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Maher clanked a 53-yard attempt off the left upright during the first quarter, but came back to connect on a 41-yarder in the second.
He later missed an extra point after the Rams' first touchdown right before halftime, and then pushed a 51-yard field goal attempt wide left in the third quarter.
After the game, Rams coach Sean McVay was noncommittal about the status of the five-year veteran, who was in his first season with Los Angeles after previously kicking for the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints.
"We'll look at it, and we'll see," McVay said, according to The Athletic. "He's got to be better."
